Internet
The current-day public and global computer network or "information
super-highway." The Internet is an outgrowth and combination of a variety of
university and government sponsored computer networks. Today, the Internet
is made up of millions upon millions of computers and sub-networks, almost
entirely supported by commercial funds except in countries where
deregulation has not occurred. The Internet is the substrate and chief
communications backbone for the World Wide Web (WWW), the "graphical
interface" of the Internet.

Router
A device that determines the next network point to which a data packet
should be forwarded enroute toward its destination. The router is connected
to at least two networks and determines which way to send each data packet
based on its current understanding of the state of the networks it is
connected to. Routers create or maintain a table of the available routes and
use this information to determine the best route for a given data packet.
A router routes data from a local area network (LAN) to
another network connection. A router is commonly connected to a LAN or WAN
or a LAN and its Internet Service Providers (ISP's) network. Routers are
located at gateways - the places where two or more networks connect.
Cimetry can provide and setup ADSL Routers for Internet connectivity. The
benefit of using a router device instead of a digital modem is the ability
to share a single ADSL line between a number of PCs. The use of a router for
Internet access also provides some security, as all PCs that access the
Internet are not directly connected. This protects network devices from
being vulnerable to certain malicious attacks.

Windows Server 2003
A server is a computer that handles requests for data, email,
file transfers, and other network services from other computers (ie,
clients).
Using a server enables the client computers to share files and resources. Using a central location for data storage enables all company data to be backup up, usually onto tape so that a copy of data can be stored off site. Storing data off site is essential in the event of damage or loss via fire, flood or theft. In such an event, the off site copy of data can be used to restore the lost information, to the state it was in at the time the backup was created. It is therefore advisable to create backups of data daily.
Cimetry focus on fault tolerant storage design,
redundancy and configure scheduled full system and data backups on all
production servers.

Firewall
A firewall is a system designed to prevent unauthorised
access to or from a private network. Firewalls can be implemented in both
hardware and software, or a combination of both. Firewalls are frequently
used to prevent unauthorised Internet users from accessing private networks
connected to the Internet, especially intranets. All messages entering or
leaving the intranet pass through the firewall, which examines each message
and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria.
Cimetry recognises the importance of full
network security to combat any potential security intrusion. These risks can
be avoided with the use of a Firewall device, which hides and protects the
network connected behind it from the Internet. Firewall devices can also
control secure access for remote workers or branch offices by establishing
VPN tunnels to access local network resources.

Local Area Network
A local area network (LAN) is a group of computers and
associated devices that share a common communications line and typically
share the resources of a single processor or server within a small
geographic area (for example, within an office building). Usually, the
server has applications and data storage that are shared in common by
multiple computer users. A local area network may serve as few as two or
three users (for example, in a home network) or many as thousands of users.
Cimetry will plan, design and implement your physical and
logical network infrastructure.

Wireless Network
Wireless networks are used for creating access to network
resources where cables are impractical or flexibility is required. Also
common in public areas such as cafes and hotels so that customers can use
their own laptops to connect to the Internet. Care should be taken to ensure
that security is set up (such as WEP - wireless encryption protocol) to
protect wireless networks from intruders or people using resources such as
broadband connections without permission.
Cimetry can help expand on your current
premise wired network by the introduction of Wireless Access Points. This
can reduce costs considerably and at the same time add flexibility when
compared to installing new network cable.

Computer
Desktop PC - Home / Office
Professional Workstation - CAD / Graphics Applications
A general-purpose machine that processes data according to a set of
instructions that are stored internally either temporarily or permanently.
The computer and all equipment attached to it are called hardware. The
instructions that tell it what to do are called software. A set of
instructions that perform a particular task is called a program, or software
program.
Cimetry can help resolve performance
issues often relating to virus or spy-ware infection. Key to a PCs health
and stability is the correct installation of operating system updates and
service packs, whilst ensuring antivirus and firewall software versions are
also up-to-date.

Printer
LaserJet / Inkjet / Wide Format Printer (Plotter)
A printer outputs data that is seen on the computer screen. Most printers
today use USB connections which is somewhat faster than previous parallel
communication. Networked computers usually print to a printer through the
network card. The most crucial printer measurement is its dots per inch
rating. Although this can be misleading, a higher number is generally
better. Printers are best chosen by actually seeing the quality of the
printer output.

Laptop
A portable computer that has a flat screen and usually weighs
less than 12 pounds. It uses AC power and/or batteries. Most have connectors
for an external monitor and keyboard transforming them into desktop
computers. Most laptop computers today fall in the notebook computer
category.
